Ash & Demi were married on a humid summer day and it was especially memorable because Bullsbrook was struck with fearsome forest fires in the pine plantations north of Perth. When Ash & Demi first told me they were getting married in the Cabaret Caves in Yanchep, that was pretty exciting because I’ve seen many pictures of wedding receptions in the caves but never had a chance to shoot there myself. I shoot in a LOT of hotels so it’s great to have something a little different, especially when it is dark and moody which suits me perfectly.
Our drive from the church (St Edmund’s in Wembley) was a little bit of an adventure as police had set up road blocks to manage the fire risk meaning we had to try alternate routes. At one point we were being overtaken by fire engines… Not a comforting thought when you’re driving the same direction. The thick plumes of smoke were blocking the sun and actually causing it to give the sky a red glow during sunset which definitely made for great photos during our bridal party session.
Thankfully we made it on time and the reception went without a hitch.
Here are some of my favourite frames from the day. Thanks to Adrian Tan for shooting with me at this one!
