About 2 years ago Ash asked me to shoot his engagement party so it was pretty special to be able to be invited back to shoot their wedding. Not many of my clients get to see my development as a photographer so it’s great to be able to shoot a couple with such a time gap between shoots. It was also the first time I’d shot an Indian wedding and Ash had the patience to explain the significance and meaning of certain cultural practices. I don’t really have any indian friends so I’ll admit that I’m quite foreign to the culture but both sides of the family we so hospitable, warm and friendly that Adrian and I just felt like part of the family.
At the end of the wedding Ash said “you’re not our photographer, you’re a mate” and that’s exactly how I felt and the feelings are mutual.
Ash and Sapna love photos (their whole family in fact) so I had the freedom to try new things and no request was ever too much for them. I’m also a lover of bright colours and crazy awesome dancing so this wedding was a dream to photograph.
My friend Ann Lord was the celebrant and she went all in with the ceremony by dressing up in a sari… she even tried convincing me to wear one! This was also my first time working with Brigid Grace from Total brides… what an amazing job they’ve done with the hair and makeup.
Thanks again to Adrian Tan for shooting this wedding with me.
