Glen & Nikki’s wedding was one of my most anticipated weddings of the year! Nikki is the owner and master baker behind Niknak Sweetest Treats. She’s quite the Willy Wonka of desserts and every time a post pops up from her on my facebook feed, she’s come up with another way to reinvent the desserts we all know and love. The last I saw it was watermelon macarons that actually look like watermelons.
Back in August last year, Nikki & Glen also had their pre-wedding shoot with Chapter One, a sister company of mine that I created together with Olivia from Olive Farm Designs which allows us to flex our creative muscles and push limits on what people expect from pre-wedding/engagement photography. We asked Nikki to make a few desserts for us and she rocked up with several large storage boxes full of treats. I think with Nikki there is no such thing as “just good enough”… it’s over-the-top-mind blowing or nothing. So at her pre-wedding shoot, with the creative talents of Liv from Olive Farm Designs and Anna from Botanica Naturalis we hung a pallet from a tree and made a floating dessert table with real moss and all of Nikki’s desserts.
You know, just because we could.
And it was awesome.
Then Nikki started telling me about her wedding… she jokes that some brides have two weddings, the one they’re having on “pinterest” and the one they’re actually having but her wedding is going to BE her pinterest wedding. So she’s describing it to me and my eyebrows are plastered to the top of my forehead with each sentence. Firstly there will be dessert tables … more than you have ever seen at another wedding. Guests will have bags so that they can fill them up to take home. The caterers are being brought in including all the table settings and chairs to create an outdoor dining experience under the stars, lit by festoon lights. Her ceremony would overlook an olive grove and Glen would be personally make ceremony decorations, dessert tables and his own bar out of old pallets. Finally we were to expect partying into the night… lots of partying.
She then shares the vendor list, which brings a smile to my face because most of them I am friends with and highly respect. Those I didn’t know previously I met on the day and they all added to making it exactly as Nikki had dreamed.
So here is my view of the wedding. The thing that blows my mind is that EVERYTHING you see from the planning and styling, the signage, the ceremony, all the details and logistics for the day came from one person! Okay maybe two… Glen did help too. I remember keeping track of time and Nikki disappears… She was putting her wedding cake together and making extra icing… on her wedding day!
Of course there were a LOT more details than this and if I showed them all you’d just be scrolling and scrolling forever. This is just a preview and most importantly, this is what it FELT like to be there.
Thanks to Adrian Tan for shooting this one with me.
