When Michelle asked me to shoot her pre-wedding she’d looked at a lot of my photos and loved the romantic angel glow I get at sunset. When we went out to shoot her pre-wedding, dense clouds took over the skies and I could tell there was a bit of disappointment on her face. She smiled it off when I asked about it but I knew she really wanted clear skies and we got maybe ten minutes of sunlight (max!) throughout the shoot.

At the end of the day as a final hurrah, I took them up to one of my favourite places in the hills to see if there would be a glimpse of sunset through the thick clouds. It’s happened to me before where I’ve waited for something beautiful at sunset but because the clouds were too thick it resulted in nothing…. just a gradual dimming to darkness. Nevertheless…. you never know if you never go right?

Then right at the end of the day… the sun peeks through and we get one of those deep orange red and purple sunsets that you really only see a handful of times a year.

I couldn’t believe it! Every time I see these types of sunsets I almost never have a camera with me let alone a couple but that day we hit the jackpot. I was so happy for Simon and Michelle because the clear skies they originally wanted are a dime a dozen but sunsets like this are seriously gifts from above.
